Past Events & Community Involvement

Pictou County
Go Clean, Get Green

Urban Roots participates in Pictou County Go Clean, Get Green. We have helped clean over 1,000 lbs of waste from our roadsides and communities each year.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Bowl for Kids Sake

We take part in Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake each year. Our team raised almost $1,000 for 2024!

Tree Planting Initiatives

Urban Roots participated in several tree plantings with the Town of New Glasgow in 2023. Our most recent was on Earth Day 2024, assisting with a red Oak planting on Park Street. Taking part in tree planting initiatives aligns with our values of plant health care and permaculture!

Tree for Boston

Urban Roots had the honor of wrapping the Tree for Boston for several years running. Every year, Nova Scotia sends the city of Boston a Christmas tree to thank them for the assistance they gave us after the Halifax Explosion on December 6, 1917.

Annual Flower Donation

Urban Roots completed our first Annual Flower Donation. We searched for a local organization that could enjoy our flowers, and chose Ivey's Terrace Nursing Home in Trenton. Flowers were planted in August, 2023 and sourced from our greenhouse. We hope to make this an annual campaign and brighten up local organizations in our area!

Pictou County Home Show

Our booth at the Pictou County Home Show 2023, located at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. We had the opportunity to meet with many members of our community and share our expertise.

NS Works Pictou County

Job Fair

Our HR Manager and Marketing Coordinator attended the 2023 and 2024 Nova Scotia Works Job Fair, located at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. We loved meeting all the friendly faces at our booth, as well as the other local businesses in our area who participated!

Litter Intervention Study

In Fall of 2023, Urban Roots collaborated with Pictou County Solid Waste, DivertNS, and Tim Hortons to conduct a Litter Intervention Study. We were chosen based on our participation every year as a business in Go Clean, Get Green! This study determined that over 2 weeks, litter was decreased by placing signage and extra garbage bins in local drive-thrus.
